A cruise ship in the Caribbean has been asked to respond and two people were rescued after a mayday call. The incident highlights how emergency services must remain prepared for when they’re needed.
After a ship of passengers called for help, the Carnival Cruise Line responded to their rescue with three lifeboats and saved all but one. One woman was left behind in fear that she would be separated from her husband on shore if they were rescued by helicopter. The cruise line’s vice president later apologized for any distress caused upon learning the wife had died during the ordeal. The “carnival cruise line news” is a post from the “carnival cruise line news” blog. It tells about how a Carnival Cruise Ship responded to a Mayday call.
On Thursday, the Carnival Breeze, which is operated by Carnival Cruise Line, responded to a mayday call and rescued a troubled sailboat while returning to her homeport of Port of Galveston in Texas.
Sailboats Benefit from the Carnival Breeze
At about 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, the Dream-class vessel received a mayday call. The Carnival Breeze was heading back to its homeport of Galveston, Texas, at the time. The ship made a U-turn and ultimately came upon the little boat.
Three humans and two dogs were saved by trained crew members who lowered one of the Carnival ship’s lifeboats. They were all escorted onboard and given medical attention.
Rhonda Brewer, a guest on board at the time, recorded the lifeboat’s return to the cruise liner on YouTube. “Moved off course to rescue a sailboat trapped and unable to move,” she said in response to a remark. The captain’s foot was broken, as were the feet of two passengers and two dogs. Other than that, I’m not sure.”
The Carnival Breeze was somewhat delayed in getting back at the Port of Galveston later in the morning due to the ship’s detour to conduct the rescue. The ship was returning to Galveston after a five-day Western Caribbean trip that began on October 30, 2021. Cozumel and Progreso, both in Mexico, were on the agenda.

The ship will have a brief turnaround with new passengers before departing on a shorter dour-day trip on November 4, 2021, with just a stop in Cozumel, Mexico.
It’s a typical occurrence when cruise ships react to smaller boats in peril and come to their rescue. In medical evacuations and scenarios like the one that the Carnival Breeze was engaged in, cruise liners often collaborate with the US Coast Guard.

This comes after the Carnival Ecstasy’s captain and crew were honored by the Association for Rescue at Sea (AFRAS) on November 2. In November 2020, the Fantasy-class ship rescued a 29-year-old wounded mariner at sea and treated him for his serious injuries. Many Carnival ships have reacted to vital mayday calls and spotted tiny boats in need of assistance throughout the years.
Carnival Breeze was the third ship in the fleet to resume service from Galveston on July 17. The vessel has a gross tonnage of 130,000 tons, with a capacity of 3,690 passengers at double occupancy and 1,386 foreign crew members.
